I Have Never Had As Much Fun “Snuba” Diving Before!
I recently went on holiday to Lana? in Hawai? with my family and tried something that has changed the way I looked at our underwater world. SNUBA! I have been an avid snorkeller for years and whilst I always wanted to try something a little more adventurous I never had the confidence to try Scuba Diving. To be honest the concept of carrying the tank on my back and all of the hoses associated with it just made me a little uncomfortable. I also wanted to do something with my kids, 8 and 10 years old, so it was the perfect family activity!
Snuba allows you to breathe underwater through a 20 foot/6 metre air line, like the old full mask divers – but with a normal breathing mouthpiece, which is connected to a standard scuba tank. The tank is mounted on a raft on the surface that follows your every movement. The airline allows you to tour underwater near the bottom, at mid-water or on the surface, depending on your level of confidence. There is no heavy diving gear. Every Snuba tour is guided by a diving professional. Our guide first familiarized us with the Snuba equipment we were going to be using and briefly described what we could expect to see in the water.
I saw lots of fish, a couple of moray eels and a Hawaiian green sea turtle! It was absolutely amazing breathing underwater with the sound of the local pod of Hawaiian spinner dolphins chirping playfully. My kids had an incredible time too! They have a lot of jealous classmates now after telling them what they got up to on their holidays! I would definitely recommend SNUBA to anyone who has had a similar yearning to experience the underwater world and get a little closer to the action.
