Poor Posture in Front of the Computer is the Reason Behind Back Pains

People who have jobs which involve sitting in front of the computer or enjoy surfing the net suffer from a common problem of minor backaches and pains. Some also suffer from pain on the shoulders and neck because of the bending posture. Generally, these pains disappear some time after you stop using the computer or correct your posture. One more reason for back pains can be aging. Research indicated that there is a definite relationship between back pains and your posture when you sit in front of a computer for a long time.

These back pains are not life threatening but can lead to complications if left untreated. Most of us tend to ignore these back pains and think of them as a ‘part of the job’. Unattended back pains in a long run can cause us a lot of pains and even hamper our ability to work properly.

The most common reason behind the back pain due to poor posture is muscle strain. When our spine is not in proper position because of the way we are sitting, it puts extra stress on the muscles and ligaments around it. This leads to back pain.

It is very important to have a good posture when sitting in from of the computer. You should adjust the height of the chair so that the screen is in level with your eyes. Your wrist should rest on the desk and do not sit up too straight when sitting in front of the computer.

The level of the screen should be in a way that you do not have to bend your neck to read from the screen. Experts also recommend taking short breaks at regular intervals as our body is not adapted for prolonged sitting in one position.

Pain in lower back is the most common discomfort faced by people who sit in front of computer for longer durations. Apart from this, people also complain about neck pains. You have to change your posture if you want to avoid pain in your neck and lower back. These can also be avoided if you strengthen your muscles with proper exercise.
